I am a writer, hiding in lawyer clothes. I live as an expatriot Southerner in California. I love the South, and I have come to love California. But the differences in the two cultures always amaze me. And sometimes make me laugh.
I raised three wonderful, talented amazing children as a single parent here in California. I am now absorbed in watching them journey into adulthood. I am grateful for all that I have been, all that I have been given, and for all that is to come.
I am anxious to meet new friends here, who will appreciate my journey and who will share theirs with me. And I want to entertain you with stories of all kinds. A true Southerner is a born storyteller.
Hi Deborah – So happy to have found your writing! As always, I feel uplifted and understood after talking to you. Thank you . Kathy

Hi Debra
I hope with all my heart that this finds its’ way to you. I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful tribute you wrote about my Uncle Lance, I was looking for a picture of him and somehow found my path to your tribute. What a blessing to read the words and feel those times and days all over again through the memories I had of him when I was a little girl. I loved to be with my Uncle and would often find him in his room lying on his belly feet crossed covering the entire diagonal of the king sized bed. He would be talking on the old black rotatory house phone that had just enough stretch to allow him privacy of which would be breached by my insistence of reporting to my post as his shadow. But never did I doubt that I was his favorite person in the whole world which is just as he would have had me believe. He wanted those around him to feel special and appreciated.
The laughter he always filled my Grandparents home with was warm, deep and genuine. He was genuine kind and full of life. But as you wrote he wanted to fly those helicopters. And God love him he kept on until he got there. I will tell you that never a day goes by that I don’t miss him. Everyone in my family is gone now. No one to carry on the Workman name and what it represented to my family and even though years have come and gone, the thread of my Uncle’s life remains in the tapestry of life and is remembered.
Thank you for this wonderful remembrance and the tears of happiness and pride that flowed from me. Take care and God’s blessings to you.

Dear Laura, I am so absolutely thrilled to hear from you. And I am so happy that you found my memories of Lance so real and authentic. I never knew him well. He was “beyond my star” as they say. But I admired him and loved that spirit of fun that radiated from him. The Lambda Chis have a page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=lambda%20chi%20alpha%20%26%20friends%20-%20utc%20(late%2060%27s%20to%20mid%2070%27s) where they, among other things, remember their brothers. Lance’s memory is very special to them. If you want to stop by that page sometime, your memory of your Uncle would be a blessing to everyone. You have made me so happy and I am glad that my writing did the same for you. And I still see Lance every day dancing in that red cowboy hat that Lambda Chi party! Deborah

Hello there! I live in King George, Virginia. I’ve been to Belle Grove Plantation hundreds of times. I loved the story KEEPING SECRETS. It was amazing, I couldn’t put it down. Yes, I found typos, Kings Dominion is in Doswell, VA not Williamsburg. My feeling about typos is: if you don’t find them, why did you take English 12 years in a row growing up. Its your job! Keep writing! AND I will keep reading!!! Loved it!

Hi, Terri, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. An editor here in California added Williamsburg as the location of Kings Dominion and I didn’t catch it before the final form went to the printers. I know it isn’t there. I’ve been to both many times. The mistake is on my list to fix. I’m not sure I’d call that a typo. I think it’s just a plain old mistake. To me, a typo is something like “heeling words” [for dogs] instead of “healing words” [for people]. I’m so glad you enjoyed the story and want to read more of my books. I’m busy writing another one. Bell Grove is a lovely place. It was fun to write about it!!!
